Keywords: Triple test screening, regional median values, prenatal diagnosis |
Objective: The purpose of our study was to determine the median values of the triple test screening
parameters in pregnancy in our region.
Material and Methods: In this study we evaluated the serum alpha feto protein (AFP), unconjugated
estriol (uE3) and human chorionic gonadotrophin (β-HCG) values of 2834 pregnant women who admitted
to Biochemistry Laboratory for the prenatal triple test in 2007.
Results: The median values were calculated for each parameter between the gestational 15-20 weeks.
We found that the AFP median values were significantly low, uE3 median values were significantly
higher compared to previously used values of 15th-20th weeks (p< 0.05). β-HCG median values were
high except of 18th weeks.
Conclusion: We believed that using the regional median values in triple test, performance of the
screening tests can be improved, prenatal risks can be calculated more accurately, and the need for
use of invasive diagnostic procedures can be decreased.
