Objective: It is very important to know the iodine level in drinking water for the approach of environmetal iodine deficiency diseases. It was aimed to do a wide environmental investigation for iodine level in drinking water in Kahramanmaraş due to the endemic goiter cases reported in previous researches.
Materials and Methods: Drinking water samples from Kahramanmaras and its provinces were analysed with spectrophotometric method.
Results: Iodine levels in different specimens of drinking water were found to be within 0.97-24.95 µg/L. World Health Organization (WHO) announced that recommended iodine level in drinking water could not be less than 10 µg/L.
Conclusion: Th e results demonstrated that iodine levels in the sampled drinking water were within normal values except for one, thus deficiency of iodine in drinking water could not be considered a cause of goiter in this region.
