Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate serum total, HDL and LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels and nitric oxide (NO) levels in rats with dietary walnut consumption.
Materials and Methods: The rats were divided into 2 groups as a control group (n=12) and walnut diet (n=12). Rats were fed for 8 weeks. At the end of study, effects of walnut diet were evaluated by measuring serum total, LDL and HDL cholesterol, triglyceride and NO.
Results: Compared with control group, total and LDL cholesterol concentrations were significantly reduced in the walnut diet group.
Conclusion: As a result, considering the protective effects of walnut, it can be suggested as essential component for diet.
