Objective: For the appropriate treatment of patients with chest-pain, measuring true CK-MB values is
important for the early identification of myocardial infarction. The objective of our study was to compare the diagnostic value of the two different methods in patients with acute myocardial
infarction, healty controls with high CK levels and healty controls with normal total CK level plus high
CK-MB level.
Materials and Methods: 16 patients diagnosed AMI who referred to the emergency clinic, 30 healty
controls with high CK levels and 30 with normal total CK level and high CK-MB level were enrolled in
this study. Total CK and CK-MB activities were measured by photometric and CK-MB mass levels were
determined with chemiluminometric methods.
Results: When the three groups CK-MB activity and mass values were evaluated with lineer regression/
correlation analyses; there were no significant correlations between CK-MB mass and CK-MB activity
values in both control groups (r = -0.013, p = 0.945 and r = 0.042, p = 0.825) however in patients
with AMI there was sigificant correlation (r=0.909, p = 0.000).
Conclusion: In healthy groups there may be positive interferences when immunoinhibition technique
is used. However, in acute myocardial infarction group, where the increases are really cardiac in
origine, these interferences are less prominent.
