Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine serum B12 and folic acid reference values that can be used in our hospital district population.

Materials and Methods: 300 healthy individuals were chosen according to CLSI Approved Guideline C28-A. Serum levels of vitamin B12 and folic acid were analyzed by ADVIA Centaur XP immunoassay System. The reference intervals are calculated using Analyse-it for Microsoft Excel Version 2.20 program.

Results: The mean±SD of vitamin B12 level was 301,57±114,6 pg/ml (297,19±111,6 pg/ml male, 304,97±117,2 pg/ml in female), the mean±SD of folate level was 8,70±3,90 ng/ml (8,54±4,04 ng/ml in male, 8,81±3,81 ng/ml in female). Vitamin B12 reference intervals were found as 155-639 pg/ml. Folate reference intervals were found as 2,87-19,49 ng/ml.

Conclusion: The reference values that we found in our study were different from the values recommended by the manufacturer company. We think that these values reflect our hospital population more truly than manufacturer's and should be used as reference intervals.
