Objective: Use of C-Reactive protein in the follow-up of different clinical situations is getting more important. Levels of CRP can be detected by immunonephelometric and immunoturbidimetric methods in the clinical laboratories. The emergency departmentÕs laboratory renders service to the emergency department and the intensive care units. In this study the analytical performance of the immunoturbidimetric method is evaluated against the immunonephelometric method as the reference method.
Materials and Methods: Selected 100 patientsÕ fresh sera were used to detect between-run and between-day precision and accuracy performance of the Siemens Dade Behring BN ProSpec ve Abbott Architect C8000 analysers. Statistical analysis was performed by using regression analysis method.
Results: Accuracy was evaluated in the selected fresh sera with CRP levels between 3.02-170.00 mg/L. Regression coefficient was r2=0.997 and the regression equation was y=1.171x-1.084. The coefficient of variations for three different levels of controls (13.2±1.33 mg/L; 28.5±2.85 mg/L; 49.3±4.93 mg/L) were below 5% (n=20).
Conclusion: We showed that the cheaper immunoturbidimetric method can be used safely in the laboratories that renders service to emergency departments and intensive care units by eliminating the use of another analyser.
