Objective: Prostate specific antigen (PSA) and ma ny other tumor markers are suggested to be useful for the biologic activity of the prostate cancer. The aim of our study is to investigate possible relationship between inflammatory markers (high sensitive C-Reactive Protein and neopterin), fibrin degradation product (d-dimer), PSA levels, tumor stage and grade.

Material and Methods: 29 subjects with protate cancer were enrolled to this study. Serum total PSA, hsCRP, neopterin and plasma D-dimer levels were determined in both groups. Serum total PSA and neopterin determined with an immunoassay kit and liquid chromatography respectively. Serum hsCRP and plasma D-dimer levels were determined with an immunoturbidimetric kit.

Results: Subjects divided three groups according to their Gleason scores and pathologic stages, but statistically significant difference was not found. A positive correaltion were found between hsCRP and D-dimer (rho=0.433, p=0.035), TRUS biopsy findings and PSA (rho=0.639, p=0.000) (Paerson Correlation Test).

Conclusions: Total PSA levels with hsCRP, neopterin and d-dimer measurements may be useful for the choice of convenient therapy for the patients with prostate cancer after the determination of tumor degree, stage and metastasis. In this study these measured parameters have no contribution to tumor characteristics, but relation between hsCRP and D-dimer supports the known connection between inflammation and coagulation in the patients with prostate cancer. This finding emphasizes recently popular relation between prostate cancer and inflammation.
