It is known that anti-platelet drugs reduce the vascular pathologies in patients with cardiovascular
disease. Despite using these drugs there are still a number of patients suffering from vascular events.
Even though monitoring antiplatelet drug therapy with platelet function tests is contentious, they are
widely in use. The wide variety of available platelet function tests using different methodologies, the
apparent lack of standardization, and emerging evidence on the clinical value of platelet function testing
are resulting in a considerable uncertainty in the clinical practice, Nevertheless, platelet function testing
has clinical benefits for the patients and also helps in identifying the right drug at the right dose for the
right patient. In this review article, platelet activation, formation of thrombosis, up-to-date platelet
function tests and drug resistance in patients receiving anti-platelet drugs will be discussed.
