Keywords: OGTT, Insulin, Inflammation, CRP |
Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of hypeglycemic peak induced by OGTT on
the basal inflammatory state by exploring the serum CRP level diffferences
Material and Methods: I24 patients for suspicous of diabetes who have applied to our laboratory for
OGCT were included in the study. GlucoSe levels were analyzed in zero and second hours samples for
OGCT, and CRP levels were determined in zero and five hours samples. The differences observed in
CRP levels were evaluated for statistical significance.
Results: Patients were categorized according to their serum glucose values; normal tolerance (n=10),
impaired tolerance (n=5) and diabetic (n=9). Within the normal tolerance group, zero hour CRP levels were significantly higher than 5 hours CRP levels (p=0.047). No significant change was pertained with
other groups.
Conclusion: According to the results we concluded that hyperglycemic peak induced by OGCT
caused a decrease on the CRP levels, reducing the basal inflammation in normal tolerance group.
